Elopements are incredibly exciting—exploring the country you have never visited before, exploring the culture but you know what would makes it even more magical? Sharing it all with your little furry companions! If you’re thinking about bringing your best friend along for your big day, you’re in for an even more magical experience. Just remember, traveling with dogs can be a bit of a rollercoaster ride, so here are some tips to make it smooth sailing!
Research Your Destination
Ask any dog owner, they'll tell you their pet is more than a pet, he's part of the family and, of course, it would be so romantic to have them with you while you're saying your vows, but before you pack your bags and scoop up your pup, do your homework. Not all national parks are dog friendly, some places may have restrictions on where your dog can roam or they might even charge extra fees. Whether you're flying by plane, check out the airline’s pet policies (yes, they vary and can be tricky, some airlines allow you to buy your pet a ticket so they can ride with you while others allow pets only in the baggage area). And, of course, familiarize yourself with your accommodations. It’s best to know ahead of time so you can relax and enjoy your adventure without any hiccups.
How To Safely Travel With Your Dog
Your dog’s well-being is super important, especially when it comes to international travel. If you decide to bring your pet to your elopement - quick trip to the vet is a must. Some dogs, like my sweet Nala, might not handle long journeys or unfamiliar faces very wells so it would be best for their well being if they stay home especially If your pup struggles with anxiety or has any health issues.. If they are good to go, make sure to gather all necessary vaccinations and even pack a doggie passport! You never know what could happen, so have a chat with a vet about any natural remedies for travel sickness just in case.
Prepare For The Unknown
Expect the unexpected! Things don’t always go as planned, so it’s smart to prepare for little bumps along the way. Look up local veterinarians at your travel destination and keep their contact info handy. And don’t forget to pack a basic first-aid kit for your pup—it could be a total game-changer if they have a minor mishap!
Traveling abroad for your wedding is a thrilling adventure, and it’s even better with your best friend by your side. As long as you plan ahead, your elopement will be memorable for you and your furry companion!
With Love,
Matea
