Destination weddings are experiencing a surge in popularity, and it's easy to understand why! They are much easier to plan than  large traditional weddings, which is less stressful for couples and allows them to focus on what matters most: each other! As a recent McKinsey study highlights, the limitations of 2020 and 2021 rekindled our appreciation for exploration and adventure (McKinsey, 2024) you could say we have realized what truly matters to us, so we choose to prioritize experiences which has previously been put at the back burner.

This trend also extends with destination elopements – more and more couples are combining romance with the excitement of traveling the world, discovering distant places and cultures. Additionally, couples are becoming increasingly inventive in selecting their wedding locations – while some choose luxurious castles, others prefer breathtaking landscapes like towering mountains, dense forests and vast deserts.

The couple I photographed last year decided to say their vows on the beautiful Mediterranean Island of Brač. Looking for a romantic island where you can celebrate your love? Look no further, here are the reasons why the Island of Brač is ideal for your intimate wedding:

Why Choose Brač Island For Your Intimate Beach Wedding

  • Vidova Gora

Definitely one of the most beautiful places I've visited on the island of Brač, and even beyond. It is the highest mountain in the Adriatic Sea and one of the most beautiful viewpoints on the Adriatic. When I climbed to the top, which is 778 m above sea level, I spent 10 minutes in silence, absorbing the view of the surrounding islands of Hvar, Vis and Korčula. After the silence, there followed a good 15 minutes of “Ohhh my Goood, thisss is so amazing!!!”

Luckily, the local who accompanied me up there patiently waited for my impressions to settle and didn't rush me to the next spot. We reached the top by car, but if you want to go on foot, you can climb the Roman Trail (which is considered moderately difficult), which is at a gradient of 19%. It will take you approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to reach the top.(Planinarenje.hr, 2021)

Whichever way you choose, I know you’re going to have a great time because the view is OUT OF THIS WORLD!! This is a video I managed to took after I stopped screaming:

  • Blaca Desert

Before I traveled to Brač, I prepared a list of all the coves and beaches I wanted to visit, but I missed something. Luckily, I met a very friendly local who offered to show me the island and took me to a place I did not expect to find on a Mediterranean island like Brač — the so-called Blaca Desert. The Blaca Desert is located on the southern side of Brač Island, between the towns of Bol and Milna. It was founded in the 16th century and functioned as a monastery, although its members did not belong to any particular order and, as a community, they were open to anyone regardless of their faith. (Punkufer, 2021)

The monument is quite remote, accessible by a road that is difficult for vehicles to pass, so it is recommended to take a boat to the cove Popove Vale, after which it will take about 45 minutes on foot to reach the Desert.

  • The Best Beaches on Brač Island

We can’t finish the article about Brač Island without mentioning the numerous sandy beaches you can visit. When I look for the perfect beach for clients to hold their wedding ceremony, I look for beaches that aren’t crowded so they can focus on each other while reading their vows — after all, that’s the most romantic part of your wedding!

The beaches I liked the most on Brač and think would be perfect for your beach ceremony are: Vela Planica Beach, Vela Lučica Beach, and Babin Laz Beach. These beaches are accessible by road but still don’t have many visitors, so you’ll be able to focus on each other!

Exciting Activities That Will Make Your Wedding Day an Absolute Adventure

Whether you want to spend your wedding day exploring secluded coves, sailing by boat or even hiking — Brač can definitely offer you both! If you want to get to know the island more deeply and visit places that are not so touristy, I recommend renting a kayak since it gives you complete freedom of movement and allows you to visit secluded coves that tourists usually don’t go to.

Also, if you are sporty types, the island of Brač is great for hiking Vidova gora is the tallest peak - from where you have a breathtaking view of the entire island.

Best Seasons For Your Beach Wedding on Vis Island

If you plan a wedding during the summer, you can expect tourists because Croatia is a well-known tourist destination. This wedding took place at the beginning of June, and although there were tourists, there were no major crowds. The island is crowded in July and August, so if you seek a bit of privacy, I recommend May, June, and September when there are fewer crowds and the heat is milder.

This elopement was unlike any other – the newlyweds decided to celebrate their wedding with their best men who gave their all to ensure that laughter and joy never faded, which reminded me of what truly makes life rich: warm human relationships and friends!
